  1. Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook 4-5 minutes until soft, then add garlic, cumin, and smoked paprika and cook 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the black beans, diced tomatoes, and vegetable broth. Bring to a simmer and cook 15 minutes.
  3. For a thicker soup, blend about half the pot with an immersion blender (or mash with a spoon), then stir back together.
  4. Stir in the lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Ladle into bowls and finish with cilantro, avocado, and tortilla chips.
